Video

YouTube vs. Google Video

YouTube is, honesty, one of my favorite websites out there. I checked out Google Video and when you search for a video it gives you any and all websites, including YouTube, where you can that certain video.

Something that has made YouTube so successful is the fact that you can almost find any video that you want. I can find any CSI: NY video that I want (most of them I have seen). YouTube is really simple to use.

Movie Trailers

The difference between the standard quality and the high definition quality in the movie trailers is actually very interesting. With the standard quality, all you get is the actual movie trailer but with the High Definition trailer, you get behind the scenes stuff with the actors and directors from the movie.

There were not that many movies that I had not heard of (maybe I watch too much TV). But the few that I did watch, some I might go see and some I will not. All depends on how busy life is.

Podcasts and Audiobooks

Podcasts

The first podcast that I "listened" to was "Pinball Wizard" by The Who. The only thing was there were five sites that I could get the song from but only one of them was free. I was able to listen to a sample of the song but it was only about 20 seconds if not less.

http://audio.search.yahoo.com/search/audio?_&ei=UTF-8&fr=sfp&sngid=XXXXXXT003565137&p=Pinball+Wizard

The second podcast that I went to was "Sugar, We're Goin' Down" by Fall Out Boy. This one had six sites that I could get it from but none of them were free.

The last one that I went to was one at podcastalley.com. This one was a little bit more confusing and difficult to get around. It takes you to a separate website for you to get to the podcast itself.

http://podcastalley.com/podcast_details.php?pod_id=7539.

My evaluation of the podcasting experience is kind of both positive and negative. The Yahoo! website was easy to use only if there were free ones to get, but at the same time, podcasting was not what I thought it was going to be. I do not really know what I thought that it was going to be but, in a confusing type of way, it really was not what I thought it was going to be.

Audiobook

For the Audiobook part of this assignment, I used audiobooks.org. I was able to find a book that I liked, which was "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The only problem was, was that it took me to the itunes website, where I had to download itunes in order to get the audiobook itself.

My evaluation of the audiobook idea is that it does not seem like the easiest and best thing to do. If I had to download itunes to get one simple book, I would much rather go onto amazon.ca and buy the book. It may not be cost efficient or time efficient but to me it is simplier then having to sit and wait for a program to download.

Experiences with Onling Generators

These types of things are cool to look at and to find interesting pictures but I don't think that I would use it on a normal basis. I did like flickr.com the best only because you could search for the most interesting pictures or you could look up your favorite show that had been tagged. They were easy to use, once you knew what you were doing. For a few of the mashups there wasn't much in the way of instructions, so you were on your own with figuring out what to do.

Part of me does think that some of these things are a waste of time because unless you know what you are doing and know what you are looking for then you don't really have any use for them.

Evaluating Flickr Mashups

The first mashup that I looked at was www.krazydad.com/colrpickr. It was confusing at first, but then once I played around with it, it was easier to understand what it did. I think that if there were some sort of instruction to what you are suppose to do then it would make the process a lot easier.

The second one I looked at was labs.systemone.at/retrievr. This one was cool because you can just sit there and color all you want. You can draw whatever you want too. Even though the screen is a little same it's still fun to do.

The last one I looked at was flickrvision.com. This one was cool too because it kept refreshing it self to what had been uploaded in the last few minutes. The only thing that I didn't like about it was that it didn't stay on the picture for very long. You only had a few seconds to look at it and then it moved onto something else.

del.icio.us Experience

Social Bookmarking seems like an interesting piece of social experiences with friends once you get use to using it. It takes some time to be able to know what you are doing but at the same time once you know what you are doing it is easy. You can search for your favorites shows, actors, characters or anything else that you are interested in.

I don't think that it could replace bookmarking in your browser because it takes to much effort to do the searching and to be able to find what you are exactly wanting to bookmark. It is easier, when you are using Internet Explorer to just add it to your favorites because then you know that it will be there, it does not seem that this type of social bookmarking will always be reliable because you have to keep going back to website in order to get to your bookmarks. With Internet Explorer all you have to do is open up the browser and your bookmarks are right there.

Google Reader

My experience with the RSS technology was not very good. I couldn't really figure out how to share things and how to get the feeds to go where they needed to.

The three ways the share the feeds are : 1)to recommend an article to your friends where you can send the link to them; 2) click the share icon, this will make the link appear on the public page that was created; 3) you can customize a clip of all your feeds to appear on your blog.
I tried to get a clip done but because I could not get the feeds to share it would not work.
I do not really find this technology very useful because it is so hard to figure out and it can get very frustrating when you can not figure out where everything is going.

Evaluating Twitter

Twitter does seem like an interesting thing to call blogging. But according to Wikipedia.org, Twitter is a "social networking" service that people can send their updates from a phone, Instant Messaging, or right on the web.

It seems that regular blogging is easier then using Twitter. You can do blogging about anything from anywhere with any blogging site. You can do the same on Facebook, MySpace, it's just another blogging site. Some people do not need a special blogging site to tell people what they are thinking, what they are doing with their lives.

Personally, blogging on regular websites seems easier. I don't need special backgrounds, colours, or fonts.

But that's just my opinion.

Online Blogs

The first blog that I looked at was a review for the first episode of Season 4 of CSI: NY. It actually was a scene by scene review of the show. So if you had missed it and wanted to know what happened and couldn't find what went on in an episode, you could go to this website http://www.dingorue.com/2007/09/28/csi-ny-season-4-episode-1-can-you-hear-me-now/ and find out what happened.

The second one that I looked at was one that had pictures from an upcoming episode. Even though there are only a few pictures, it's interesting the someone actually got a hold of the pictures before the episode even aired. http://www.csifanatic.com/2007/09/29/csi-ny-photos-episode-404-you-only-die-once/

The last blog that I looked at was another review for the first episode. The difference with this one is that it is longer and it has the reviewers opinions on the things that happened. It has more details then the first one as well. http://community.tvguide.com/blog-entry/Imaguestages-Blog/Csiny-Premiere-Lady/800023182?rssDate=12345678

Evaluating Blogger

Blogger is not my favourite blog site. When trying to upload a picture you can't just take one from your computer and add it in like other sites. You have to have a link for it and it be the right size. I tried to add a video as well but that didn't even seem to work. But the things that I was able to put up were things that go along with everything else on my blog.

So, I really don't like Blogger because it's not as easy as other blog sites are but if it was the only thing that I had to use then I would use it.
